Plans for 2006
Click
here for details of our 2006 programme. As well as all the
usual courses of General English and Examination preparation you will find
out about our new Professional English and Cambridge
Fast Track programmes.
Professional English
This
two-week course is for people who need English for work.
The
Professional English course covers all aspects of Business English skills:
presentations, negotiations, telephoning, attending meetings, reading and
writing reports, interpreting statistics, discussing business and economic
trends. All participants must have experience of the world of business.
The
course also includes the opportunity to discuss topics of general
interest.
Cambridge fast track
Our new
Cambridge Fast Track courses are for students who
have
limited
time and are not able to follow a full Cambridge Examination Preparation
Course. If you are preparing for a Cambridge Examination in your own
country, come to our school for two weeks and focus on the skills you need
to ensure success in your chosen examination.
Most
students on these courses will already be following an extensive Cambridge
preparation course in their own country.
staff news
Dave
Russell,
our Director of Studies for many years, is now working freelance on
publishing projects and for the University of Cambridge. He is still our
webmaster and also acts as consultant for the school.
Hugh
Cansdale
has returned to us for another summer. He is hoping to teach in Canada
from October.
Nick
Morris
is going
to Spain soon with his family. He will be working in a luxury
hotel and will at the same time be looking after a grove of walnut trees.
A complete change of direction for Nick and we wish him good luck.
Holly
Nathan
and
Dean Holdsworth returned to us this summer. They have been teaching in
Italy and plan to return there for another year.
Rachel
Horner and Oliver Day have been with us for the first time this
summer. They are now off to Korea on teaching assignments.
Glynis
Roberts,
our School Administrator and Accommodation Officer, is getting married at
the end of August. We wish her and her fiancé, Ivor, every
happiness together. When she comes back to work she will be known as
Glynis Chuter.
the house

We are
decorating the school building. The new colours will be yellow and
white.
When the work
is done the school will look very smart.

the garden
We have
been busy replanting the garden with flowers and shrubs. Mark Hill
and Christine Hale have worked hard on the design. We have just
bought two new wooden benches for the garden. One of these will be
dedicated to the memory of Dorothy Rippon, Principal of the School,
1980-2000.

groups
We
have had more groups this year. A large group from a Japanese High School
arranged a super Farewell Party with Japanese food, music, games and
activities. Some of the students wore traditional Japanese dress.
We have also had groups
from Italy, Poland, Switzerland, Latvia and Austria. On our Teacher
Training courses we have welcomed four teachers from a college in Baotou,
Inner Mongolia in China.

All these plans will help to
make Eastbourne an even more attractive place to visit for UK and overseas
tourists.
travelling around Europe
Graham will
be promoting the school in Prague, Bratislava and Budapest in October. He
is also planning return visits to Latvia, Estonia and Switzerland.
… and Finally …
It’s
sunny and hot in Eastbourne right now. We hope the sun is shining where
you are. Write us an email and let us know what you are doing.

Good
wishes from
Graham, Glyn,
Christine, Glynis, Louise, Roy, Sophie, Keith, James, Lindsay, Rolf,
Patsy, Gill, Mitch, Mark, Graham, Michael, Dean, Holly, Nick, Nicola,
Katherine, Amanda, Geoff, Ferage, Fleur.
