News from Eastbourne School of English

Students at our school

Anton Holzer (44) from Austria

Anton is a trained engineer and works for The Austrian Red Cross in Salzburg. He is Deputy Commander of Rescue Services in Salzburg County and in charge of disaster relief in Austria and abroad.  He is often required to travel to provide aid during conflicts such as the Kosovo war. He has also helped build a camp for 3500 refugees and rebuild 78 fishing villages in Sri Lanka following the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004. For this, and for personal reasons, he wants to perfect his English and he is spending three weeks on the English Intensive course at Eastbourne School of English. His goal is to speak three foreign languages by the time he is 50. He already speaks German, English and Spanish and would like to add Italian or Russian to his range.

Abdullah Balshrf (19) from Saudi Arabia

Abdullah finished high school in Saudi Arabia and then joined the Study Year Programme at ESoE. His goal is to take the IELTS exam and then go to a UK university to study business. His father is a successful international businessman, and Abdullah feels inspired to follow in his footsteps. Aside from this, he looks after six horses in his spare time. His great personal achievement was riding across 120 kilometres of desert outside Riyadh in 2006, a feat that took him nine and a half hours to complete.
