New movie set in Eastbourne
25th July 2008

Do you recognise this place? It's a shot of Eastbourne from a new British comedy which is coming to our cinemas in July. Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging is based on a novel by Louise Rennison and adapted for the big screen by Gurinder Chadha who also directed Bend it Like Beckham and Bride and Prejudice. The film is set in Eastbourne and features the Carpet Gardens, Pier, Falling Sands and Fisherman's Green.

Georgia Nicolson is fifteen, lives with nosey parents who don't understand her, an annoying three-year-old sister and has to wear a beret to school. She would rather have blonde hair, a smaller nose and a boyfriend. We follow her adventures as she describes the traumas of being a teenager.

In an interview with the Eastbourne Herald in October 2007, Gurinder Chadha said: "I started reading the book and wanted to set it in a seaside town. I knew Eastbourne anyway and have always thought it was lovely. I love the bandstand here. Eastbourne [...] seemed like the perfect location."

Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging will be in UK cinemas from 25 July 2008.
