Maurilio from Brazil
12th March 2009
The second student to come to us through the British Council’s “Let Your English Grow” competition is 21 year-old Maurilio Da Costa from Manaus in northern Brazil. Maurilio is at university studying Portuguese, education, and English. He teaches Portuguese, and other core subjects to disadvantaged children who have left school early. With his improved English skills he hopes to spend more time as a volunteer teacher of English. He said “I prefer teaching much younger children because they don’t judge me on my language!” We think he is doing very well!
“Let Your English Grow” gives people of all ages from around the world the opportunity to win a scholarship to study in an English language school in the UK. With hundreds of schools taking part, this initiative attracted a huge amount of applications to ESoE. Principal Graham White chose Maurilio because of his charitable work and his ambitions to use his English to help people in Brazil.
