Dance and Karate at ESoE
28th October 2008

Special Focus Life Skills classes returned after the busy summer period as part of the English Intensive course which runs from September to May at Eastbourne School of English. Over 30 students took part in teacher Katherine Binger's dance lesson, in which students from all over the world learned the basic techniques, rhythms and movements needed for dancing salsa with a partner. Students had to swap partners after each song which encouraged communication and interaction with other students and it was a great confidence-building exercise.

Life Skills - karateThe Life Skills karate class was just as popular. Students took over the spacious student lounge on a Friday afternoon to learn basic techniques from this ancient martial art. ESoE teacher Graham Smith, a black belt in karate, said: "Karate is not about fighting, it is also great for self-defence and really good exercise. Students don't want to sit in a classroom all day every day, so we offer them a little variety."
