Happy Christmas

At last it is getting colder and winter is approaching.  It’s time to think about Christmas.  We are planning a dinner for our staff, a special Christmas lunch for students, a carol singing afternoon, a party for our host families, a visit to a traditional Christmas pantomime at the local theatre. Best of all will be the Staff Show when our teachers dress up and perform sketches and songs for all the students.  It should be great fun.

On 11 December real reindeer from Scotland will be bringing Father Christmas to the town centre.

Successful Students

This year more of our students have gone on to higher education.

Yu Sin Park is following an MA Course in Tourism and Marketing at the University of Surrey.

Kengo Hashimoto, who achieved the brilliant result of 8.0 in IELTS, is now studying English at Oxford Brookes University.

Others are now working in new jobs as result of studying at Eastbourne School of English.  Hiroko Sakuguchi contacted us recently to tell us that she is a counsellor at the Berlitz School of Languages in Tokyo.

Autumn in Kyoto

Setsuko Manabe sent us a photo of her at a temple in Kyoto.  Setsuko and her friend – also called Setsuko – attended a 50+ course with us this summer.

Why not send us a picture of yourself in an interesting location in your country?  We will include it in a future edition of the Newsletter.

Lindsay Carter, our popular Summer Social Organiser, has nearly completed her training and will soon be a qualified English teacher.

Dave Russell has been spending time in his new house in Greece.

Michael Nutt is returning to us in January 2006.  He has had a year off looking after his son, Simon, who is now nearly two years old.

Mark Hill will soon be a first-time father.  His partner, Mog, is expecting a baby in February.  We hope everything goes well.

Roy Smith, our Finance Officer, has been flying over to Cyprus regularly, where he is buying an apartment in the sun.

Graham White’s sons, The Electric Soft Parade, have just released a new EP, The Human Body.  It’s on Truck Records and available from all good record stores.  They’ve also been touring in Europe and the UK with a new band, Brakes.  Check them out at www.brakesbrakesbrakes.com.

The Building

Decorations are now complete and the building looks very smart with its new mix of yellow and white.  The finishing touch will be a new, colourful sign in the front garden.

The Global Cafe

Luis Silva is our new Café Manager.  He loves cooking food from all over the world so has renamed our snack bar as “The Global Café”.   Luis will be preparing a traditional Christmas lunch for staff and students in mid December.

70 years of E S O E

In June 2006 we celebrate our 70th anniversary.  Look out for details of the celebrations in the coming year.
