Students celebrate cultures
3rd March 2010
Eastbourne School of English students celebrated International Friendship Day at an afternoon organised by the Eastbourne Cultural Communities Network (ECCN).
The ECCN is an organisation which is supported by The National Lottery and celebrates the various cultures living in and around Eastbourne.
The students had a very enjoyable time visiting a number of stands from around the world. Malayans, Hungarians, Poles and Nepalese offered food, snacks and facts sheets about their countries.
There was some Thai dancing and children paraded in their national dress. Our students did rather well in the lottery; pictured above are the students holding some of their winnings with teacher Graham Smith.
The Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Greg Szanto, was also present and chatted to a few of our students and a good number of local residents got involved as well.
Staff and students at Eastbourne School of English try to support local charity initiatives wherever possible. The day was a great opportunity for students to meet residents of the town’s growing international community. Sally Taylor, the event’s organiser, will further strengthen the bond by coming to the school to talk about the ECCN’s activities.
