Social Programme. |

Tuesday 31

Drinks party
After a morning of grading
tests and your first class, this is an opportunity to relax and meet the
other students on your course, as well as the teachers. |
Tuesday 31 August, 1.30 pm
Eastbourne walk
A short walk around the town to introduce you
to Eastbourne and to show you the banks, shops, post office, bus station,
railway station
and other places you may need while you are
here. |

Wednesday 1 September 1.00 pm
Sussex villages
A short
distance from Eastbourne are the pretty Sussex villages of Wilmington and
Alfriston.
We visit Wilmington first, where there is a very old church,
parts of which were built in the
12th century. Then we walk over the fields and river to
Alfriston,
stopping on the way in Lullington to see the smallest church in Sussex.
In Alfriston you will have a chance to sample a traditional "Sussex Cream
Tea".

September

Friday 3 September, 2.00 pm
Bowls
Come along to Princes Park Bowls Club on the seafront and find out how to
play the traditional game of bowls. Members of the Bowls Club are there
to explain the rules and show you techniques. Afterwards relax with a cup
of tea and stroll back home by the sea. |

Saturday 4 September, 8.30 am
Full day excursion to London
Enjoy a full-day trip to
London. Wander along the South Bank of the River Thames and see the
London Eye, the spectacular new art gallery, Tate Modern, the new
Millennium Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral.
There will be plenty of
time for shopping too.

Monday 6
September, 2.00 pm
Say
Cheese!
Come to the Student Lounge
to find out all about British cheeses. Mr and Mrs Robins will give you an
illustrated talk and you will have a chance to try seven different types
of British cheese. Enjoy! |

7 September
Lewes
Lewes is a delightful hill
town inland from Eastbourne. It is the county town of East Sussex. Our
visit includes a tour of the ancient Norman castle and the 16th century
house of Anne of Cleves, the fourth wife of Henry VIII.
There will also be time
for shopping and wandering through the picturesque narrow streets.

9 September, 1.00 pm
Bodiam
Castle and Kent & Sussex Railway
The
interior of this picturesque castle is a ruin but the four round towers
and the large gatehouse still stand, surrounded by water. You will also
take a ride on a delightful old-fashioned railway to the market town of
Tenterden in Kent. |

Full day
excursion to Winchester
Winchester is the
ancient capital of England.
King Alfred was
crowned here in 871 AD and made Winchester the capital city.
The
magnificent cathedral was built in 1079.
The elegant town
centre has excellent shops.

Monday 13 September, 1.00 pm
Penshurst Place and Gardens
This superb mediaeval
house has been the home of the Sidney family since 1552.
The Baron’s Hall and the
Long Gallery are both excellent examples of Elizabethan architecture. The
formal walled garden was restored in the 1950s

Tuesday 14 September, 2.00 pm
Gardners Books OR
Old Town Walk
Take a tour
of Gardners Books, the UK’s largest book distributor. You will see the
large warehouse and hear how this family-owned company has built their
business. If you prefer you can walk through Eastbourne Old Town and see
all the historic buildings. |

Lunch
Join us for lunch at
Eastbourne’s oldest and most atmospheric pub, “The Lamb”.

Friday 17 September, 12.15 pm
Farewell drinks
Say goodbye to us in the
Student Lounge. Take a few last photos and enjoy a final drink.
